Characters - they're what drive our stories along and lift them to new heights. Without characters. there can be no conflict; without conflict, there can be no story. But, if you think about it, characters are people - ordinary, commonplace, normal people you might meet on the street. Everyone has their own personality, so why are characters so often cut from the same molds? Tolkien's elves have popped up in dozens, hundreds, of different incarnations, and his dwarves are nearly as popular. Why can't our elves be bright blue, thirteen feet tall, deaf, and covered in pink mud? Why can't our dwarves have four legs and suddenly have to go in search of the remedy for itchy noses and patchy ear hair? (That was all off the top of my head, so . . .) We don't need to follow any expectations for our characters. As a matter of fact, the most intriguing real fictional people don't meet any lists of criteria; they make the lists. And...
Yes! It is so hard to find good quality reading material, especially when those of us blessed with speed reading tend to blaze through everything we can get our hands on.
ReplyDeleteSame on the strange range of musical taste. I’m not even sure what mine is called.
Oh and yes! Grammar and spelling are both very important! Right up with the importance levels of Lord of the Rings and Narnia.
It is! And an absolute yes to the speed reading. Sometimes I wish I didn't finish awesome books quite so quickly. However, we are blessed with the extra time - to be used in reading more books, obviously.
DeleteI'm pretty sure mine is known as officially weird, but I prefer to call it eclectic. :D
Are we related, or something? Because that's totally something I would say. Grammar and spelling are the building blocks that hold our culture up, even if everyone else seems to completely disregard them. Oh well, us LOTR/Narnia/grammar people will take over the world eventually. No one will be able to resist our impeccable taste. :)
YOUR BLOG IS ADORABLE. I love love looove the woody background. And I'm sooo excited to learn more about you, especially since when you first started commenting on my blog I was like "Who is this creature?" I can't wait to read more.
ReplyDeleteLater!

Aw, thanks! I like it too (I guess I did pick it) because it's so understated yet really elegant. Yes, it is always fun to learn more about someone. That's why questions were invented, right? XD Full confession: I actually kind of stalk people sometimes.
DeleteGlad you like it!
Brianna
Good to "meet" you Brianna! You sound like an interesting person. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog.
Why, thank you - it's nice to "meet" you as well!

God bless,
Brianna
If you're a fan of correct spelling/grammar, then maybe you like correct punctuation too? If so, please join me in mOURNING THE ABUSE OF THE APOSTROPHE. And the general public doesn't even care... *weeps salty tears*
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, it's annoying when people (unlike characters) don't stick to your mental script ;P
Can't wait to see some recommendations of good books from this blog, Brianna! (and I appreciate you following mine ;)
I do like correct punctuation! Oh my word, yes!! That poor little thing is so abused and forgotten! (You may want to read the next section with care :D ) Those people who write "Fruit's" or "Your doing great" or things like that - they probably don't know that they're slowly killing us. *joins you in weeping*
DeleteYes, life would be better if everyone had a snappy comeback ready for all occasions. Except maybe funerals. :P
I hope I'll be able to help!
Brianna
YES! Fellow ENFJ! :D

I know, there are all these introverted bloggers (or so they claim :D ) but extroverts are few and far between. Hello, fellow ENFJ! *waves excitedly*
DeleteI'm glad you found me too! We'll have to stick together now. :D
I'm really curious about your awesome name now . . . where'd it come from??
Brianna

ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much! I love your blog - it's so cool!

I've never got the same result on Myers Briggs or met anyone else that has!!! That's insane... ;p I typed myself as an ENTJ :d And yes - Em Dash is wonderful ;)
ReplyDeleteketurahskorner.blogspot.com
I don't know why the results have been so consistent. It is rather crazy. :D Oh, we're almost the same then! Nice to meet another extrovert around here. :) I overuse the Em Dash, honestly. It's so very helpful for everything - I've had to limit my usage in class papers. :D
DeleteBrianna
I looked at your user profile and let me just say I love your taste in movies! :P
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you! From your blog, you seem to have great taste as well! :D
DeleteBrianna
Just found your blog! It’s always nice to find a fellow LOTR and Narnia fangirl! And SAME about the soundtracks, and chocolate, and the library......
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your posts, Brianna!
Nice to meet you, too! It sounds like we have a lot in common. :D Yes, chocolate is the elixir of life, in my opinion.
DeleteThanks so much!
